Position Description

The Global Product organization in Pearson designs and develops research-based products to deliver improved learner outcomes. The Learning Research and Design team is one of three teams within the Efficacy and Learning division supports product teams across the company to design effective products that help people learn. The Learning Research and Design team is looking for a highly motivated, self-driven Learning Science Researcher to support our core mission: to improve the impact Pearson’s products and services have on learner outcomes.The Learning Research and Design team is looking for a highly motivated, self-driven Learning Science Researcher to support our core mission: to improve the impact Pearson’s products and services have on learner outcomes.The work of the Learning Research and Design team focuses on three main areas:

+ Synthesising the science of learning into tools and templates to guide the design of learning experiences for impact on outcomes that matter to our learners

+ Partnering with product teams to apply learning science informed tools and templates to design learning experiences for impact on outcomes that matter to our learners

+ Conducting research in the early stages of product design to test learner perceptions of impacts

This position reports to the Director of Learning Research & Design, and will contribute to all three areas of work. The primary focus will be on communicating insights from learning science research and conducting research as part of the product design process to help develop products that deliver learner outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

+ Act as an expert resource in supporting the business in outcomes-focused, evidence-based design of learning products.

+ Conduct, commission or synthesize available research and translate it into resources that are relevant and practical to guide the design of learning experiences in priority products and services.

+ Support functional prototype research to test early user perceptions of impact and learner value

+ Support the business to represent learning science research in the context of our products via sales/marketing channels, helping drive growth by engaging a variety of Pearson consumers and stakeholders

+ Support the Global Product organization with research training and development in order to further embed learning science research into roles and responsibilities across the Global Product Organization

+ Contribute to Pearson’s reputation as a research-driven learning company by communicating and presenting research findings through a variety of channels including: internal reports/videos/blogs/face to face workshops, conference presentations, peer-reviewed journal papers, and executive summaries

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Qualifications

+ Experience conducting primary and secondary research around learning science concepts

+ Experience with a variety of research designs and both qualitative and quantitative analysis

+ Ability to rapidly establish a strong rapport and collaborate with a range of stakeholders

+ Ability to work quickly in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment on high impact problems

+ Strong written and verbal communication across a range of audiences

+ PhD or other doctoral degree preferred, with a focus in one of the following areas: learning science, cognitive science, educational psychology, or a related discipline

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

+ Experience in applying research findings to inform the design of learning materials and/or learning technologies

+ Experience with conducting research to understand learner /customer needs in the education sector

+ A record of research publication in peer reviewed journals, and presentations at professional conferences

The anticipated starting salary range for Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $68K-$70K. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program. Benefits available to eligible employees can be seen at: https://pearsonbenefitsus.com/
