JOB SUMMARY:

In accordance with the St. Vincent Health System mission and core values, the licensed practical nurse will perform care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills. The LPN uses patient care skills, teamwork, meets practice guidelines, and follows clinic specific policies and regulatory standards, under the supervision of the clinic physician.

Essential Functions:

General Care Uses appropriate knowledge and skills in the care & interaction with customers across the age continuum. Performs care according to hospital / departmental policies & procedures. Patient Evaluation Assists physician in administration of patient evaluation according to clinic policy. Accurately records subjective information and vital signs. Attentively listens to patient's chief complaints and incorporates them into the record. Records patient allergies and medication incompatibilities. Calls attention of physician to special needs of patient. Administering Medication Administers and documents medication, therapies, and treatment under supervision of physician according to clinic policy. Documents patient response to medication administration, as indicated. Accurately clarifies and verifies physician orders prior to administration. Ensures that all drugs and medications are logged in and out and securely maintained according to clinic policy. Implementing Therapies and Procedures Assists with patient care as directed, by physician, according to clinic policy. Verifies presence of informed consent. Identifies potential risk and contraindications and reports immediately to physician. Administers therapies, and treatments as instructed by the physician, according to clinic policy. Documents patient's response to therapies, and treatments. Records outcomes and subjective observations concerning outcomes according to clinic policy. Maintains all medical equipment in good working order. Orders medical supplies appropriately, through appropriate staff. Assists patients with scheduling and referral procedures. Adheres to all regulatory requirements for clinics (OSHA, Infection Control, Fire and Safety) Assists in other areas of clinic as needed. Documents and maintains patients charts according to clinic policy. Maintains patient's charts in secure location. Correctly uses all equipment (i.e.: spirometer, EKG, nebulizer). Teaching and Communication Assists physician in education of patient and significant others. Identifies the patients and significant other's knowledge base, ability and readiness to learn based on their developmental age. Adjusts training to meet needs of learner, using outside resources as necessary and appropriate. Distributes appropriate information and training to patients and significant other on a timely basis. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and employee information and records. Serves as a preceptor and role model for new employee and students according to clinic policy. Documents patient education in the patient care record. Attends all mandatory education each year. Identifies and implements educational opportunities for staff and self. Identifies self and role to all customers. Utilize conflict resolution skills. Communicates in a positive professional manner when relating to others. Stewardship Is honest in using hospital and clinical resources Uses time wisely in completing job assignments. Qualification:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Current Arkansas LPN Licensure

Physical Requirements:

This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 20-100 pounds of force. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals), infectious diseases, and may be required to function around prisoners and mental patients.

Skills:

Ability to identify scope of practice issues, prioritize duties and make effective decisions concerning patient care. Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform multiple tasks, often under stress. Appropriately applies knowledge, training and skills in the care of neonate, adolescent, adult, and older patients. Utilize good organizational skills. Key boarding skills preferred. Successfully completed BLS.
