JOB SUMMARY:
In accordance with our mission and core values and under the supervision of a physician, the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) may assume clinical responsibility for those respiratory care modalities involving all age groups for which the individual has demonstrated an acceptable level of competency and experience. The CRT's role shall not require the exercising of independent, clinical judgment; however, the CRT may be expected to adjust or modify therapeutic techniques within well-defined procedures based on a limited range of patient responses within the General Care Areas. The CRT may assume clinical responsibility in the Diagnostic, Neonatal, and Adult Critical Care areas as individually competent. The CRT may be enlisted to serve as proctor to students and new employees for orientation and competency assessment purposes. Assuming of the duties of the leader of the shift is not an expectation for the CRT, but will be considered above and beyond the job description.
Qualification:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Associate of Applied Science Degree Program for Certification in Respiratory Therapy. Successful completion of the NBRC examination for Certified Respiratory Therapist. Possess current Arkansas State License for Respiratory Care Practitioners.
Experience:
No experience required other than that required for completion of educational program.
Physical Requirements:
The physical activities involve balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping and use of fingers and repetitive movements. An individual in this position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to 50 lbs and push/pull 100-150 lbs. The sensory and communicative activities required for the position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling and speaking. Individuals in this position could possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, most probably blood borne pathogens and body fluids, chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and radiology hazards.
Skills:
Completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) and bi-annually thereafter. Successful completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 3 months of employment. Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for NICU staff before attending deliveries independently. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required for select staff. Neonatal Pediatric Specialty (NPS) exam preferred for core NICU staff. Must demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal effectively with all team members, patients, family members, and physicians. Must possess the ability for calm, critical thinking and prioritization of duties in emergency situations. Must possess effective decision making, assessment and prioritizing skills. Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to care for the infant, child, adolescent, adult and older adult. Must possess knowledge of and skill with computers and various software..
